Khalid: Panel to get to the bottom of alleged misconduct

Sunday June 8, 2008

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor House Select Committee will conduct an independent investigation into alleged misconduct by a senior officer in the Mentri Besar’s office.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the case would be handed to the committee, headed by Speaker Teng Chang Khim, to carry out its own inquiry and advise the state government on further action.

Khalid was commenting on news reports regarding four PKR members from Kuala Selangor, Tanjung Karang and Shah Alam who lodged a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) some days ago against the senior officer for wrongful conduct in a distributing, cleaning and waste collection contract in Petaling Jaya.

They were quoted saying that the action to bring the case to the ACA was to uphold the integrity of the party.

It is learnt that the same group also lodged a police report over the matter.

When asked about the four PKR members’ actions, Khalid, who is also PKR secretary-general, said he had not received any information on the matter yet. He said those who made the allegation should take responsibility for their accusations.

“We only heard rumours that there are people pointing to a wrongdoer, but we do not know what is not right.

“What we know is that a group of people claiming to be PKR members are concerned about corruption practice. I accept it, because it has been PKR’s practice to go against such problem (corruption).”
