Ahmad Said: Meeting with PAS a good starting point

Saturday July 19, 2008

HULU TERENGGANU: Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said has described his recent meeting with state PAS leaders as a starting point to tackle issues affecting people in the state.

He said the meeting was held in an amicable atmosphere and the state government was receptive to feedback provided by the opposition.

“With the current political situation, the state government led by Barisan Nasional and Umno should foster a close relationship with the opposition for the sake of the people, particularly the Malays.

“We (Umno) have exchanged barbs and pot shots with PAS during the election campaign period, that is enough and now we have to focus on our core objective, which is the people,” he said yesterday.

Ahmad said the state government was willing to hear suggestions from the opposition on how to best improve on the delivery system of government machinery to benefit the people.

“Our meeting centred on such issues and no political matters were discussed,” he added.

On Tuesday, 12 state PAS stalwarts attended a landmark meeting with Ahmad at his office in Wisma Darul Iman.
