Court Cancels Arrest Warrant On Politician

IPOH, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The Sessions Court here today cancelled the warrant of arrest issued against former Perak state executive councillor Capt (R) Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu for not turning up for his RM80 million corruption case last week.

Judge Azhanis Teh Azman Teh cancelled the warrant after Osman's counsel Abdul Roni Rahman submitted Osman's medical certificate for Feb 9-12 issued by a medical officer of the coronoray intensive care unit of the Selayang Hospital.

Mohd Osman was in court together with former state executive councillor Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi who was among the five accused in the case.

Magistrate Sharmila Abdul Samad issued the warrant of arrest against Mohd Osman on Feb 10 for failing to submit a medical certificate to explain his absence that day.

His sister, Noriza Jailu, who was his bailor, had told the court that he had been admitted to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur for a heart problem but could not furnish the medical certificate because he was still under observation.

Mohd Osman, Jamaluddin and three others -- Usaili Alias, Perak State Development Corporation technician Ruslan Sahat and former Perak Tengah district councillor Zul Hassan -- face 16 counts of soliticing and receiving bribes in connection with a RM180 million development project in Iskandar near here.

They are alleged to have committed the offences at the Perak State Secretary's office and Kluang Station Cafe in Medan Istana, Bandar Ipoh Raya, and Aquarias Restaurant & Bar, Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam, Penang, between Aug 14 and 19 last year.

Zul is also charged with corruptly accepting sexual favours from a woman at Sri Sayang Apartment in Penang at 8.10pm on Aug 14.

The court has fixed June 15 and 16 for trial.
